Baldur's Gate 3 has a variety of different weapons that can help to create some very efficient Melee or Ranged character builds. Among these weapons is the Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get the Ritual Dagger (1)Ritual Dagger, an Uncommon Melee Dagger Weapon with the ability to grant a +1d4 bonus to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws, both inside and outside of combat, through different methods.

The Ritual Dagger is available once players reach the Goblin Camp during the middle of Act 1, making it a perfect choice to add to any early game Rogue or Dexterity-focused build. Ritual Dagger Location in Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur's Gate 3, the Ritual Dagger is located within the Shattered Sanctum, where the majority of the Goblin Camp resides. To find the location of the Ritual Dagger, players will need to make their way over to the Goblin Camp from Blighted Village and then head inside the building to Shattered Sanctum.

Once inside, walk into the main room and climb the stairs on the right side. On this side of Shattered Sanctum, there will be a small room labeled as the Bloodied Shrine, where the Ritual Dagger can be obtained. The correct room can be identified by Abdirak, a shirtless man with white hair standing inside, facing the wall. In case Abirak isn't the easiest guy to locate, the approximate map locations for the Bloodied Shrine room are X: 334, and Y: -21.

Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get the Ritual Dagger (5)

Inside the Bloodied Shrine, the Ritual Dagger can be found on a table to the right side of Abdirak after walking inside. However, this Dagger isn't just a freebie that's up for grabs, meaning you'll have to be rather sneaky or brutal to obtain it. The easiest way to obtain the Ritual Dagger in this situation is using a character with very high DEX, such as a Rogue like Astarion, to steal the item. This isn't too difficult compared to other thefts, as Abdirak is facing away from the table, meaning he won't have a direct line of sight to witness any theft. To steal the Ritual Dagger, select a high Dexterity party member and then use the Hide button. Now, walk up to the table and simply click on the Ritual Dagger to add it to that character's inventory.

After stealing the Ritual Dagger, there is a chance that Abdirak will notice that it is missing, especially if the weapon is accidentally dropped or thrown for any reason. Because of this, it's best to quickly get out of there for a while and explore other parts of the Goblin Camp to avoid being caught for theft.

In the case that party members are confronted by Abdirak, there will be an option to convince him the party has no involvement via various Ability Checks, or to Attack him in response. Sometimes during these confrontations, Abdirak will have already picked the dropped Ritual Dagger up or taken it back from the character in question, meaning that in this circumstance, the only option will be to Attack and kill him, then steal the Ritual Dagger back from his corpse.

It's also worth noting that if combat is initiated with the Goblins instead of or before attacking Abdirak, the Ritual Dagger will disappear from the table. This is because Abdirak appears to grab it and leave the Shattered Sanctum following the slaughter of the Goblins.

He can easily be missed on the way out, too, which makes chances for attacking and killing him for the Weapon after this event rather slim. Instead, players should ensure they interact with Abdirak and steal the Ritual Dagger before initiating combat with the Goblins. This is because Shattered Sanctum in Act 1 is the only opportunity through the entire Baldur's Gate 3 storyline to secure both the Ritual Dagger and the unique Loviatar's Love permanent buff, which is earned by succeeding various checks when agreeing to participate in the beating upon talking to Abdirak.

Ritual Dagger Perks & Best Characters to Equip With

Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get the Ritual Dagger (8)

The Ritual Dagger in Baldur's Gate 3 is an Uncommon Weapon with the Finesse, Light, and Thrown properties that deals 1d4 Piercing Damage on a hit. On top of this, the Ritual Dagger also has some bonus abilities, as explained below:

  • The Pain Maiden's Blessing (Combat): After a successful attack with this dagger, the wielder receives a +1d4 bonus to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws until the end of their next turn.
  • Blood Sacrifice (Action): Pain is a path to power. Take 1d4 Slashing damage to receive +1d4 to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws.

The Ritual Dagger will make a decent addition to any character build that utilizes Dexterity as the main stat, as DEX is responsible for influencing Melee Finesse Weapons. However, the abilities that the Ritual Dagger grants make this weapon the perfect tool for a Rogue (Thief Subclass, in particular) to use.

This is because the Thief Rogue gets extra Bonus Actions per turn, meaning they can lead the round with a Sneak Attack Melee to trigger +1d4 from The Pain Maiden's Blessing, then follow up with two Off-Hand Melee Attacks, which will both gain the +1d4 bonus to their Attack Roles.

While Astarion's default Rogue Sub-Class is the Arcane Trickster, he can be respecced into a Thief through help from Withers, in case players would like to try this build for themselves. This is a great choice to run for the entirety of the BG3 campaign, especially if there are already multiple Spell Casters in the party.

The Ritual Dagger effectively pairs well with the rest of a Thief Rogue Astarion's kit, too, as this will enable him to not only have a range of options he can use for his multiple Bonus Actions but also to ensure he gains high value from these decisions.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
